Bullet Blues wishes a very happy Mother’s Day to Mothers, Grandmothers, Godmothers, Mothers-To-Be; and yes, even Mothers-In-Law!

Growing up in France as a child, Mother’s Day was an especially joyous occasion. Being one of six children, this holiday always brings back a lot of good memories. We were so proud to give our Mother little gifts that we made in the small school of Bignac with a bouquet of beautiful wildflowers. We knew it meant the world to her; she made each of us feel special in her own way.  Those were the good old days!

I’m sharing below one of my favorite pictures of me and my son, Guillaume, that was taken during a Bullet Blues photo shoot.

In France, Fête des Mères (Mother’s Day) is celebrated on the last Sunday of May, with the exception of the day of Pentecost (According to the New Testament, the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples of Jesus.) when Fête des Mères is shifted to first Sunday of June. The tradition of honoring mothers in France was made official in 1950 and inaugurated by Napoleon whose famous quote is – “The future of a child is the work of his mother”.

I love this quote by Honore de Balzac, a 19th century French novelist and playwright. Le coeur d’une mere est un abîme au fond duquel se trouve toujours le pardon. (The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.)
